The Problem is Government Power

posted on

PBS commentator Bill Moyers is known for his overtly liberal views, as reinforced by remarks he made in June at New York University. To George Leef, who commented on the Moyers speech for the web site of the Foundation for Economic Education, Moyers missed the point and reflected a flawed belief that “the Right” is causing all the problems. “Instead of clinging to the tribalistic groupthink that labels one “wing” good and the other bad,” Leef wrote, “Moyers ought to realize that the coercive use of government power has undesirable effects no matter which ideological camp is behind it. The problem, in short, is government power itself, which inevitably attracts rogues and schemers.” Leef concluded by suggesting that since Moyers thinks big government will only do good things, he’s fallen for “the adult version of the tooth fairy.”
