Syrian refugee concerns, direct primary care, global warming lawsuit, and more

posted on

Last weekend’s terrorist attacks in Paris prompted N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory and many of his counterparts across the country to call on the Obama administration to halt the flow of Syrian refugees into the states. Reports on McCrory’s actions in both the Raleigh News and Observer and Charlotte Observer cited Carolina Journal Associate Editor Dan Way‘s report on current refugee numbers and projections for future resettlement. NCPoliticalNews.com and N.C. Senate Republicans’ daily press email also highlighted Way’s reporting on Syrian refugees. NCPoliticalNews.com and the Caldwell Journal picked up Way’s story on N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper’s response to McCrory’s position on the refugees.

Way joined Bill LuMaye on WPTF Radio to discuss another topic: the increased emphasis on direct primary care to help address rising health care costs. The Caldwell Journal and N.C. Spin website picked up Way’s article on that topic. The Senate GOP promoted Way’s articles on redistricting reform and the fight to end renewable energy mandates in North Carolina.

WTVD interviewed John Locke Foundation Senior Political Analyst Mitch Kokai about a 13-year-old girl’s lawsuit designed to force state government to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in order to fight global warming. Time Warner Cable News’ statewide “Capital Tonight” asked Kokai to assess the role of nontraditional media in today’s coverage of N.C. politics and public policy. The Winston-Salem Journal asked Kokai to respond to a left-leaning advocacy group’s report on changes in state unemployment benefits. The Greensboro News and Record and the News and Observer‘s “Insider” picked up that story. The N.C. Spin website publicized Kokai’s “Locker Room” blog entry on the overselling of benefits from higher education.

Vice President for Marketing and Communications Donna Martinez and CJ Managing Editor Rick Henderson dissect the week’s top political news for the latest edition of Curtis Media Group’s “People In Politics” radio program. JLF Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray continues twice-weekly politics and public policy updates for WTSB Radio. Gray discussed legislative issues during a presentation to the Apex Rotary Club. The Kernersville News published Gray’s column on ending state renewable energy subsidies. The N.C. Spin website promoted Gray’s column citing the importance of North Carolina’s military and veterans.
