School testing results, direct primary care, and other JLF research interests

This week’s release of new National Assessment of Educational Progress test results prompted media outlets to seek expert analysis from the John Locke Foundation. Director of Research and Education Studies Terry Stoops discussed NAEP scores with the Raleigh News and Observer and with Lockwood Phillips on WTKF’s “Viewpoints Radio.” Phillips also discussed NAEP and President Obama’s proposal for a cap on standardized testing with Director of Education Outreach Lindalyn Kakadelis.

Stoops assessed the president’s standardized testing proposal with Time Warner Cable News. A Mount Airy News columnist publicized Stoops’ analysis of North Carolina’s status as a net importer of public school teachers. N.C. Senate Republicans’ daily press email cited Stoops’ column on the latest community college remediation rates. The N.C. Republican Party cited Stoops’ “Locker Room” blog on per-student increases in state education funding.

Health and Human Services Policy Analyst Katherine Restrepo‘s latest Forbes column focused on direct primary care and its positive impact for the doctor-patient relationship. The N.C. Spin website, NCPoliticalNews.com, and Senate GOP all promoted that column. The Direct Primary Care Journal highlighted Restrepo’s “Locker Room” blog entry on Affordable Care Act rules that limit the growth of direct primary care. The N.C. Spin website also cited Director of Fiscal Policy Studies Sarah Curry‘s observations about state legislators’ pay.
