Role of Taxation in NC

posted on

As Joe Coletti has pointed out in a Policy Report – the conclusion of which he presented to a group of Fearrington Republicans – the General Assembly has a pattern of spending before taxing. Just think of all the wonderful programs and projects that are out there – not just at the state level.  There’s the creation of a living wage (a.k.a., minimum wage hikes with more passion), and allocations to non-profits. See, Daren Bakst‘s comments in the Smoky Mountain News and Chad Adams‘s Opinion in the Charlotte Observer.  And of course there’s the new convention center in Wilmington whose funding comes from newly designed tax districts that siphon higher hotel room occupancy taxes to that cause. Chad Adams, speaking in Wilmington with American’s for Prosperity’s Francis DeLuca, discussed the boondoggle about to lay siege to the city. Rising above the gloom-and-doom, Chad also spoke with Curtis Write on the Big Talker, 106.3 about local issues like taxation, responsible government, performance management, corruption, and health care.
