Redistribution of Wealth Still Attracts Liberals

George Leef couldn’t resist responding to the tired and flawed rhetoric offered by Jim Leutze in Metro Magazine. Leutze wrote in the September issue that if libertarians had their way and the federal government ended efforts to alleviate poverty, “the weak should tremble and the principled cringe.” In his letter to the editor in the October issue, Leef blasted Leutze’s argument and wrote that liberals need to understand that redistribution results in greater losses than benefits through higher prices, taxes and lost job opportunities. “We would all be better off if government stuck to the Jeffersonian model of protecting life, liberty and property, and left charitable efforts and the provision of education to voluntary action,” he concluded.
