Redefining Liberal

posted on

Because modern liberals have hijacked the word, it’s necessary to separate liberal, as we know it today, from classical liberalism. Classical liberalism holds that liberty is of first order importance in a political society. If today’s liberals are different than the liberals of olden times, then what species have we inherited today? Jon Sanders has an excellent break down of this new-order liberal on FrontPage Magazine online. If you want a single issue that typifies the divide between old and new, read Charles W. Baird’s comments on the right-to-work movement as it stand in opposition to labor unions. His piece applauds George Leef‘s book on the subject, Free Choice for Workers: A History of the Right to Work Movement.
