John Locke Update / Impact Newsletter

Rah-Rah for Randy

posted on

The dimming din you may hear coming from Roanoke Rapids is probably the last of the supporters for the Randy Parton Theater and the Carolina Crossroads complex desperately trying to draw attention to this I-95, government-supported tourist trap.  After the perpetual hounding of investigative reporter, Don Carrington, news continues to leak out about the controversial economic development plan, the first to be funded by tax-increment financing. Now, it’s not just Don who’s digging. The Raleigh News & Observer has joined in the fray. So are residents, who continue to contribute news and information to a local online forum. All anyone is looking for here is a little discloser. And though the city won’t share this public information, they seem more than willing to do so for local real-estate agents. Just how monumental is this boondoggle?
