Perdue media team’s job numbers shenanigans attract national attention

A Carolina Journal investigation revealed this week that Gov. Beverly Perdue’s press office has had potentially illegal access to confidential federal employment data while preparing the governor’s spin on monthly unemployment reports. Executive Editor Don Carrington‘s article has attracted attention across the state and in national media outlets. At the national level, the Rush Limbaugh radio program, Fox News, Washington Examiner, Drudge Report, Daily Caller, Human Events, and Instapundit all picked up the story. John Locke Foundation President John Hood shared details with readers of National Review Online’s primary blog, “The Corner.” Websites including ZeroHedge.com and Charlotte-Raleigh Citybizlist also promoted the story. Carrington discussed his findings in talk radio appearances with Chad Adams (WLTT), Tom Lamprecht (WTIB), Lockwood Phillips (WTKF), and Steve Sedahl (WRDU). CJ Managing Editor Rick Henderson tackled the same topic during an appearance with Bill LuMaye (WPTF). Other North Carolina media outlets that picked up the story include television stations WTVD, WCTI, and WWAY, along with the News & Observer‘s “Under the Dome” blog, the Greensboro News & Record‘s “Off The Record” blog, the Insider newsletter, Scott Mooneyham‘s statewide syndicated newspaper column, M2M Politics, and the Lincoln Tribune. The N.C. Republican Party used the information in a news release, and N.C. Senate Republicans promoted Carrington’s article in a daily press email.
