Parental Choice in Durham County

posted on

In Durham’s Herald-Sun, Director of the North Carolina Education Alliance Lindalyn Kakadelis,
addressed the Durham County Board of Education’s decision to
incorporate parental choice into district assignment policy.
Kakadelis praised the Board’s decision to nix the competing plan – a
reassignment lottery that left students and parents at the whim of
chance.  Another game of chance, the education lottery, may prove
problems for charter schools seeking a portion of the funds.
Kakadelis talked to the Star-News of Wilmington about this issue.  And, at a panel for the Education Policy Fellowship Program on Accountability in Education, Kakadelis discussed the state’s accountability program, including NCLB, school choice, and teacher quality.
