The John Locke Foundation has lined up Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal as the headline speaker for the foundation’s 19th anniversary celebration. The News & Observer‘s “Under the Dome” column highlighted the announcement of Jindal’s upcoming speech in both its online and print versions. Meanwhile, the N&O‘s Wake education blog drew attention this week to Carolina Journal‘s recent work exposing scandals associated with the free and reduced-price lunch programs in North Carolina’s public schools. In other news, recent data show that North Carolina juries are handing out fewer death sentences than in past years. News 14 Carolina interviewed John Locke Foundation communications director Mitch Kokai about the implications for the future of capital punishment in North Carolina. JLF research from years past also attracted notice this week, as a Hillsboro (Ohio) Times Gazette story noted one man’s citation of a JLF report touting the potential benefits from Chile’s unemployment programs.
