When a rumor spread that Jacksonville city officials planned to buy the local country club, John Locke Foundation Research Director and Local Government Analyst Michael Sanera sprang into action. A letter from Sanera to the Jacksonville Daily News highlighted JLF research into other city-owned golf courses that have drained local government coffers. Speaking of debunking bad government ideas, the Mooresville Tribune recently reprinted Terry Stoops’ Carolina Beat column on the myths associated with lengthening the school day and school year. JLF President John Hood continued to contribute his expertise to National Review Online’s blog, “The Corner,” while N.C. Senate Republicans highlighted in a blast e-mail a Daily Journal column from Hood that analyzed a federal proposal that would increase North Carolina’s Medicaid burden. The Tenth Amendment Center liked a recent Carolina Journal print column from N.C. History Project Director Troy Kickler so much that the center asked for permission to republish the column online. Meanwhile, the Wheeling (W. Va.) Intelligencer included JLF Vice President for Outreach and Resident Scholar Roy Cordato among the list of notables who have addressed audiences recently at West Liberty University.
