Obamacare blame game, Wilmington port, and other items of interest

posted on

The Kernersville News, Lumberton Robesonian, and Richmond County Daily Journal all published Rick Henderson’s recent column on Obamacare supporters’ efforts to shift blame for the troubled health care law away from themselves and toward the American people.

The Wilmington Star-News interviewed John Hood for an article about the future viability of Wilmington’s port. (John Hood, president and chairman of the conservative John Locke Foundation in Raleigh, said Wilmington will continue to compete as a niche port even as the shipping industry changes with the widening of the Panama Canal and larger vessels. North Carolina ports will still have viable business offerings, he said. But it’s important for us to be realistic about the cost and benefits of spending additional dollars (on expansion).)

N.C. Senate Republicans promoted Hood’s columns on the value of field trips, the links between traffic jams and high-density development, and North Carolina’s wise decision to reject Medicaid expansion. The Senate GOP also cited Carolina Journal Executive Editor Don Carrington‘s latest tax fraud investigation, Michael Lowrey’s story on a state appeals court ruling involving training of North Carolina bail agents, and contributor Jesse Saffron‘s article on the controversial sale of N.C. State University’s Hofmann Forest.

The Laurinburg Exchange published columnist Kristen Blair‘s recent article on media multitasking. The Jefferson Post ran an article mentioning the John Locke Foundation’s efforts to promote online transparency for state and local government agencies.
