Learning and Teaching

When it comes to education, any question can be answered by replying with “more money.” Fat kids in school? No problem. Put more money towards healthier meals. Overcrowding? No problem.  Issue a bond, raise taxes later, and build any school you want. Money may answer the question, but it doesn’t solve the problem. Schools in Georgia are worrying about their teachers’ salaries (generous as they are) as they watch NC pour more money into schools. But they still complain about teacher quality. Until pay is linked to achievement gains as designated by a comprehensive, national testing standard (we’re, of course, lacking), money ain’t no thing.
