Leadership In And Around Schools

posted on

Wake County, like many counties across the state, is facing a number
of hurdles –enrollment booms, teacher shortages, and construction costs
– all requiring the attention of a competent leader.
Unfortunately for the county, they are devoid of a superintendent. The
school board is content with looking for a replacement within its
ranks. But some, including Lindalyn Kakadelis, think the application pool should be open to those outside, increasing the talent pool. House Speaker Jim Black, mired in potential political problems, might have another one on his hands.  Kakadelis, noting Black’s tie to optometrists, blasted Black’s insertion into the budget bill a mandatory, expensive, eye
exam for five-year-olds entering public school in the fall. She is working with Leanne Winner of the North Carolina School Board Association to address the issue.
