Kudos for Hood, Carolina Journal highlights, and other items of interest

A recent letter in the Monroe Enquirer-Journal listed “John Hood on Fridays” as one of the letter writer’s favorite elements of his weekly newspaper subscription. The News & Observer and Charlotte Observer interviewed Hood for an article about a health insurance “gap” in North Carolina. N.C. Senate Republicans promoted Hood’s columns in the past week on the impact of Democratic political grudges on the 1984 N.C. governor’s race, the latest “colossal mess” in national politics, and the state Supreme Court’s latest look at education-related issues.

The Senate GOP also highlighted “Piedmont Publius” blogger Sam Hieb‘s Carolina Journal article on the embattled High Point mayor, CJ Associate Editor Dan Way‘s report correcting the record on the impact of the partial federal government on North Carolina’s Work First program, Managing Editor Rick Henderson‘s article on the state’s NCWorks Online program, Mitch Kokai’s column on the debate over state ticket taxes, and Associate Editor Michael Lowrey‘s report on a state Supreme Court decision that will make it harder to prove business deception in lawsuits. Triangle Business Journal republished Lowrey’s article.

The News & Observer referenced the John Locke Foundation in an article recounting the latest developments involving Wake County’s transit plan. The Winston-Salem Journal and Dunn Daily Record are among the publications that picked up Tom Campbell’s recent N.C. Spin column citing the John Locke Foundation.
