North Carolina emerged as one of the few bright spots for the Republican Party in the 2012 elections, as Pat McCrory won the governor’s race and the GOP picked up seats in both congressional and legislative contests. Fred Barnes wrote a Wall Street Journal article (subscriber link) pointing to North Carolina as a model for a “red state resurgence,” and Barnes cited the John Locke Foundation and President John Hood. (The John Locke Foundation, a conservative think tank, uncovered numerous instances of misconduct and reported them in its publication, Carolina Journal. … “There was a culture of corruption because Democrats were in power for so long,” says John Hood, president of the Locke Foundation. “And there were crooks.”)
In another instance of national recognition, the Daily Caller promoted Carolina Journal Executive Editor Don Carrington‘s article about questionable voting practices involving a Roanoke Rapids group home for developmentally disabled people.
