JLF analysis of Tuesday’s election results attracts attention

posted on

One of the most highly anticipated items on Tuesday’s election ballot in North Carolina involved five races for the Wake County Board of Education. The Associated Press interviewed Terry Stoops, John Locke Foundation Director of Education Studies, about those school board contests. The Charlotte Observer, WRAL, Greenville Daily Reflector, Mooresville Tribune, Rocky Mount Telegram, and Statesville Record & Landmark are among the outlets that picked up the AP story. The News & Observer‘s “WakeEd” blog also promoted Stoops’ comments about the significance of the Wake school board races. Once Democrats won most of the Wake school board contests and other significant North Carolina elections, JLF President John Hood‘s reaction attracted attention from the “WakeEd” blog, the Greensboro News & Record‘s “Off The Record” column, and N.C. Senate Republicans’ daily press email. Even the author of a recent national “hit piece” on JLF founding chairman Art Pope noted Hood’s column in a New Yorker blog entry, labeling Hood “Pope’s most gifted wingman.” Speaking of the New Yorker‘s attack article, N.C. Senate Republicans promoted Hood’s follow-up column on the topic. The Mountain XPress also mentioned the subject, citing Pope’s support for the “well-known” John Locke Foundation. The Powerline blog cited JLF in its response to the New Yorker article as well.
