Honoring a Teacher

Earlier this year, Karen Palasek told CJ readers the wonderful story of her third grade teacher, Kay Weber Sillaway, who fostered Palasek’s love of music. Palasek was an adult when she learned Sillaway had been a big band vocalist with the Dorsey Brothers and Bob Crosby orchestras. Palasek’s personal insight about the importance of mentors and why organized programs aren’t necessary for a relationship to naturally develop, has resulted in an interview request from the Dallas Morning News. The writer plans a piece about Sillaway, who lives in Dallas, and wants to talk with Palasek about their relationship.
