Higher Ed Spending Leads to Economic Growth?

No, it doesn’t, said Richard Vedder, professor of economics at Ohio University, in his remarks at last month’s Pope Center conference. This month, his argument is featured in MetroMagazine’s November issue. The story in the Annual Education Report also covered conference comments by UNC-Wilmington Professor Mike Adams and retired University of Indiana English Professor Murray Sperber. The question of higher education scholarships was the focus of John Hood’s Thursday interview with the Raleigh News & Observer. This year’s budget included a provision for out-of-state scholarship students to be charged in-state tuition rates. The goal, supporters said, was to help more kids by reducing the cost to scholarship donors.
