The budget is still in flux, but they’re getting closer. Despite the urgency, lawmakers didn’t renege on an age-old tradition of implementing the skeleton crew during the July 4 holiday – a costly day at the legislature, to be sure. Outside of the budget, lawmakers continue to push new bills everyday. Two that are of high interest are a renewable energy and a Medicaid phase in and payback bill.  Daren Bakst and Becki Gray have been working hard on exposing the tremendous cost this bill would have on consumers. Read about it in the Fayetteville Observer. Becki again takes center stage on the Medicaid bill.  We pause here to give special thanks to the quick work of Joe Coletti, whose on the spot calculations have helped to show the fiscal feasibility of a phase-out without a tax increase. Aside from supplying legislators with free-market solutions for pressing problems, Becki also took time to inform the Fayetteville Women GOP of what exactly passes for lawmaking in Raleigh.
