The Associated Press distributed this week to media outlets such as WRAL Television and the Durham Herald-Sun an article comparing North Carolina gubernatorial candidates’ stances on performance pay for school teachers. The article includes comments from John Locke Foundation Education Policy Analyst Terry Stoops. Speaking of Stoops, a letter writer in the Asheboro Courier-Times named Penny Tostoe devoted nearly a full newspaper page Sunday to a discussion of Stoops’ analysis of teacher compensation, merit pay, and the state lottery.
