Driving the Message Home

Research on the effectiveness of dollars spent on North Carolina road projects, conducted for JLF by UNC-Charlotte’s Dr. David Hartgen, has made its way into The Urban Transportation Monitor. The front-page story in the trade publication includes this sentence: “The findings are profound in terms of the ability to allocate scarce resources more efficiently.” The Hartgen study has already generated stories in North Carolina media. The study recommended the state redirect dollars into road maintenance and pay for the work with savings from a better system of choosing major projects – one based on cost effectiveness rather than geography.
