Civil Liberties and the Lawyer Cartel

posted on

According to University of Chicago Law School professor Geoffrey Stone in his latest book Perilous Times, America has violated civil liberties repeatedly during times of war, from the Sedition Act of 1798 till the present. Although Stone thinks our civil liberties are becoming more secure, George Leef, who reviewed the book in Freedom Daily, is skeptical. In the winter issue of Regulation, Leef takes on the lawyer cartel, siding with author Deborah L. Rhode in her book, Access to Justice.
Pointing a finger at the bar association and the educational
requirements for entry into law, Leef criticizes the profession for its
austerity and selectivity.
