Media outlets continue to follow with interest the work of Carolina Journal reporters and editors. Associate Editor Sara Burrowsarticle about federal stimulus money flowing to phantom ZIP codes attracted attention from Lucianne.com, WPTF Radio’s Bill LuMaye, the Lincoln Tribune, Mint Hill Times, and N.C. Senate Republicans’ daily e-mail. Burrows’ article on Gov. Beverly Perdue’s tepid response to federal health-care reform legislation’s likely impact on the state’s Medicaid burden also drew interest from the Lincoln Tribune and Senate Republicans. Associate Editor David Bassstory about the cost of running North Carolina congressional offices attracted attention from the Beaufort Observer and Lincoln Tribune. The Lincoln Tribune also picked up contributor Donna Martinez‘s latest article on a Chapel Hill hookah bar owner challenging the state’s new smoking ban, as well as contributor Sarah Okeson‘s article about a new commission studying the future of retirement benefits for government workers in North Carolina. Okeson’s article about a controversial jail project in Yadkin County led to references in reports from the Winston-Salem Journal and Carolina Politics Online. WakeUpAmerica.com publicized Executive Editor Don Carrington‘s report about former Gov. Mike Easley failing to report rental income on his state ethics forms. The Belmont Rocks! site noted contributor Jim Stegall‘s story about North Carolina’s pursuit of federal education grant dollars.
