Book Reviews

George Leef has been busy this week. In the Future of Freedom Foundation‘s monthly release, George reviews Timothy P. Carney’s The Big Ripoff: How Big Business and Big Government Steal Your Money. Money quote: “Timothy Carney smashes the illusion that most businesses are staunch defenders of capitalism.  Far from it — many business leaders in the United States, he shows, are constantly scheming for political favors.” The next two book reviews are a Regulation double-whammy. In the magazine’s Fall issue, George reviews Homeland Security Scams by James T. Bennett and Henry N. Butler and Larry E. Ribstein’s The Scarbanes-Oxley Debacle. The former delves into the bidding war between American political factions over who is keeping the country safer.  This, of course, falls to the detriment of the United States.  The latter looks into the fallout of the Enron scandal; not in terms of compensation or guilt, but in turns of the regulatory explosion that followed.
