Stephen Porter received a doctorate in political science from the University of Rochester, where one of his doctoral concentrations was econometrics. He is a full professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development. He teaches courses on statistics, causal inference with observational data, and survey research methods. While much of his substantive research has focused on postsecondary students, he is currently involved in funded projects to study the effect of North Carolina’s K-12 student voucher program on student outcomes, as well as an evaluation of a STEM-focused teacher education program and its effects on student achievement. He has published in journals such as Economics of Education Review, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Journal of Higher Education, Public Opinion Quarterly, and Research in Higher Education.
