Biography

Rodney Pitts graduated from Duke University in 1968, from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 1970, and the University Louvain in Belgium in 1971.

He went to New York for his first job at AEA Investors in 1971. In 1991, he purchased Southern Elevator Company in order to build the leading regional elevator company in the Carolinas and Virginia.

Founded by elevator engineer M. B. Toler in 1949, Southern Elevator Co., Inc., began as a manufacturer of elevator systems, but has evolved over the last six decades into one of the leading service and modernization contractors in the southeast U.S.

Based in Greensboro, Southern Elevator has grown from two branches to six, with more than 1,200 clients in three states, including office buildings, medical facilities, nuclear and coal-fired power plants, sports and entertainment centers, retail outlets, government offices and military bases, airports, manufacturing plants and universities.
