Biography

Richard Vinroot served as Mayor of Charlotte from 1991 to 1995 following multiple terms of service as a member of the city council. In 2000, he was the Republican Party nominee for governor of North Carolina. Over his career, he has served on numerous board of directors, including Martin-Marietta Materials, Inc. He also has been a champion of empowering parents via school choice and has served on the board of trustees for Sugar Creek Charter School. Mr. Vinroot graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and was an accomplished member of the Varsity Basketball Team. He served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam during 1968. He and wife Judy have three children and four grandchildren.
