President, Parents For Educational Freedom In North Carolina

Biography

For over 35 years, Mike has taught and trained in public school systems, private and parochial schools, churches, and youth organizations across America.

Mike joins Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina to provide all parents and families the same freedom to choose a school, public or private, which best meets the needs of their children. Mike believes, “that giving parents and families the freedom to choose empowers them and communities while fostering excellence in education across the board.”

Mike comes to PEFNC after leading Carmel Christian School as its Head of School in Charlotte. He has more than 35 years of experience as a middle school teacher, an AP US History teacher, a high school principal and a Head of School. Mike is also one of the pioneers of abstinence education in America having trained over 60,000 educators in “directive teaching” and spoken to over 1 million teens on the virtues of respect, responsibility, maturity, discipline, and character.

Producer of the nationally acclaimed “Everyone Is NOT Doing It” video series and author of two books, Mike has a long track record of professional communications and branding experience. He has also worked to successfully lobby the NC General Assembly and US Congress for his advocacy and education issues.

Mike and wife Libby are native North Carolinians.  Mike was born and raised in Durham, educated in the Durham Public School System, and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill.
