State Budget Director

Biography

Andrew Heath became State Budget Director in February 2016 on the appointment of Governor Pat McCrory. As Budget Director, Heath manages the state’s $22.3 billion budget.

Previously, Andrew served as Chairman of North Carolina Industrial Commission since 2013. As Chairman, he managed all aspects of the Industrial Commission’s operations, ensuring proper administration of more than 75,000 workers’ compensation claims filed annually. Heath also presided as a hearing officer in appeals of workers’ compensation and tort claims.

While in private practice for an insurance law firm, Heath was named a Lawyers Weekly Emerging Legal Leader and one of Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite. He served as a member of the New Hanover County Bar Association Board of Directors and on the Executive Committee of charity Welcome Home Angel, Inc.

Heath was a Division I athlete in Soccer and Track & Field at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, and graduated with a B.S. in Management. During law school at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Heath served as a legal intern in Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels’ Office of the General Counsel, interned for Indiana Court of Appeals Judge Paul Mathias, and clerked for Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter in the Tort Litigation section.

Heath moved from Wilmington to serve on the Industrial Commission and now resides in Raleigh with his wife, daughter, and son.

He is a member of Christ Baptist Church.
