Unlike the U.S. Constitution, which is rarely amended, state constitutions are amended on a regular basis. In this presentation, Professor John Dinan will discuss themes from his latest book, State Constitutional Politics: Governing By Amendment in the American States. Among the questions he will address for the Shaftesbury Society audience: Why are state constitutions amended so often? What changes have been made by passing constitutional amendments in North Carolina and other states? What are the consequences of these amendments for state politics and government?
